Fellow ALPA pilots at Sunwing,
Welcome to the Air Line Pilots Association, International!
Pursuant to the decision of the Canada Industrial Relations Board, as of November 30, ALPA became your new trade union. You are now a member of the world’s largest airline pilot union and your addition brings us to more than 79,000 pilots at 42 Canadian and U.S. airlines.
Under ALPA policy, we have established the Sunwing (SWG) Master Executive Council (MEC) that will serve as your local governing authority and is comprised of your recently elected Unifor representatives. Your MEC will lead your new ALPA Sunwing pilot group through the transition to ALPA and ultimately from Sunwing to WestJet. We will send you your new MEC’s ALPA contact information, along with other pertinent membership information, very soon. In the meantime, you can email swgmecofficers@alpa.org with any questions or concerns.
If you were a Unifor member, you will automatically become an ALPA member. Capt. Sean Creed, ALPA’s vice president–administration/secretary will send an email with your ALPA number, along with how to set up your password to log in to the member portion of alpa.org, update your member record, and access all the resources ALPA offers our pilots.
While the Sunwing pilots come to ALPA through a merger process, you will operate as your own independent pilot group until the full transition to WestJet is complete and the outstanding Sunwing business is concluded. Under ALPA's governance structure, the Sunwing MEC is distinct and independent of the WestJet MEC, and answerable exclusively to you, the Sunwing pilots.
Your pilot representatives will be fully supported by an aviation- and labour-focused staff (separate from those assigned to the WestJet pilot group) in ALPA’s offices in Canada and the United States. ALPA is committed to ensuring Sunwing pilots have everything you need in the months ahead. To learn more, visit swg.alpa.org.
We are truly excited to welcome you aboard!
