Fellow pilots,
As you are aware, WestJet is planning on closing our YQB base this spring. We have tried several times to ask WestJet management to reconsider their decision due to the severe economic and cultural impact it will have on the community. So far, WestJet management has not changed on their position – the base is to be closed. We strongly feel that this failure to recognize the unique circumstances in Québec is a mistake.
With that in mind, we will be holding a press conference in Québec City to bring media attention to this situation.
The details are:
Date: Monday, March 17, 2025
Time: 11am ET
Location: Québec City Jean Lesage International Airport (YQB) – Upper Mezzanine
If you wish to attend, please RSVP here at this link.
Due to the restrictions of the airport for space, we need you to RSVP. It is very important that we have a strong show of support.
With that in mind, we have a social media graphic we want you to use and share.
Please hold off utilizing this graphic until Monday, March 17, 2025 so it coincides with the timing of our YQB event.
Please right click the bellow image and use it on your social media channels to show your support for our Québec City crews.
PUB Event
Immediately following our YQB press conference, we invite everyone to please join us for a Pilot Unity Building (PUB) event.
Location: Archibald Microbrasserie, 1240 autoroute Duplessis, Québec, QC, G2G 2B5
Date: Monday, March 17, 2025
Time: 1300 ET
Snacks and refreshments will be provided.
Looking forward to seeing many of you there!
YQB Moving Expenses
Lastly, WestJet has informed us that they do not believe that Collective Agreement #2 (CA2) moving provisions apply to us. They have agreed to pay the lower Sunwing Collective Agreement moving expense provisions.
Those provisions were negotiated under Sunwing, with the assurances that the business was operating as normal. Those assurances were not accurate and our Collective Agreement did not anticipate a merge. We strongly feel that the higher provisions of the WJA CA2 should apply. We have addressed this concern with WestJet management and we will be addressing it with the CIRB if necessary.
In unity,
Your MEC
